Many studies have shown links between forgiveness and mental health proving that when you find forgiveness, you may just find your inner bliss. Forgiving those who have wronged us or even forgiving yourself can help you move on and be the person you want to. But what does that mean exactly and how do you do it?

Sometimes negative feelings towards a person can eat away at your brain and I have experienced this first hand. Letting go of that can make you feel like an entirely new person. We have all felt pain or resentment towards a certain person and in some cases you may even feel that way towards yourself. Maybe you have made decisions in the past that make you feel terrible about yourself. Whoever you are feeling this way towards, it may be time to forgive. Forgiveness can help you move on, grow, and stop looking at the past. Some advice that I can give on how to forgive is to try and understand why the person did that wrong and talk about your issues and feelings. Also, try to empathize with this person. I know it is easier said than done but, picturing yourself in another person’s position can possibly change your outlook.

Something important to remember is that time keeps moving forward and there is no fixing the past. Forgiving does not mean that you have to go back to how things were with a person because that most likely will not happen. Whether you are looking to move forward or get proper closure, forgiveness will help this process.
